The Era of LCD Cabbage Prices Is Over: Televisions and Displays Are Going Up in Price.

2020.08.14

In the past 2 years, prices for large-screen LCD televisions and displays have been falling, with 4K 55-inch televisions selling for around 1,000 yuan at one point, which is almost the price of cabbage. But the LCD market has changed. It has been rising for the past two months, up 24% in July, and soon LCD TVS, displays and other products will follow suit.

According to the latest data from WitsView, an industry research firm, PRICES for LCD panels continue to rise. The typical 32-inch panel, for example, was recently quoted at $41, up $3 from $38 on July 20, and up 24% from $33 in June.

One month up 24%, LCD panel is more than expected, the key is that this trend will continue for a while, the next August, September is expected to continue to increase prices, Q4 quarter is not yet clear.

The current SITUATION in the LCD panel market has also changed. In the past two years, the price slump is mainly caused by domestic manufacturers, such as BOE and TCL's Huaxing Photoelectric Co., LTD., which have been increasing production of LCD panels. Fierce price competition has pulled down LCD prices.

However, the consequences of low-price competition are also very serious. Almost all manufacturers are under the pressure of profit decline or even loss. Samsung and LG of South Korea have to announce that they will exit the LCD market and cut most of their LCD production capacity by the end of this year.

With the withdrawal of South Korean manufacturers, domestic manufacturers have mastered most of the global LCD panel production capacity. The data for the first half of 2020 shows that the LCD PANEL shipment area of domestic manufacturers has accounted for 59%, while that of Taiwan manufacturers and South Korean manufacturers has dropped to 21.1% and 19.9%.

In terms of the specific ranking, BOE Is the first, with a share of 19.05%, Huaxing Optoelectronics is the second, with a share of 17.06%, and Qunchuang Optoelectronics is the third, leaving 11.51%. Samsung and LG have dropped to 10% or even lower.
