Panel prices in early May: TV panel rises back to cash cost

2023.05.06

TrendForce announced on May 5 the first ten days of the panel price, TrendForce research vice president Boyu Fan pointed out that the current TV panel stock momentum is still in, plus panel manufacturers continue to dynamically control the movement rate, TV panel prices will continue to rise in May. In addition, China's panel manufacturers hope to get TV profits back above the break-even point by the end of the second quarter, so May's surge is still not low.

Mr. Fan expects 32-inch panels to rise $1 in May, 43-inch panels to rise $2, 50-inch panels to rise $7, 55-inch panels to rise $7, 65-inch panels to rise $12, 75-inch panels to rise $10, and full-size panels to return to cash costs in May.

According to the current demand momentum of display panel, VA products are better than IPS products. In addition, the price of Open Cell was lower before, so the quotation of Open Cell was slightly increased in these months. Fan Boyu expects May will also continue to raise about 0.3 to 0.5 US dollars; As for module products, demand visibility is less clear, price adjustment room is limited, May still have a higher chance of flat. However, recently, the Taiwan panel factory because of the strategy adjustment, the first to release the information of adjusting the display panel, the subsequent impact on the whole market atmosphere and price trend remains to be observed.

The demand momentum of pen panel is increasing slowly, and the overall demand visibility in the future market is not clear, so brand customers are still conservative in the attitude of panel stocking. Fan Boyu believes that although panel manufacturers have tentatively released the message of want to raise prices, but it is expected that brand customers resistance to price increases is also very strong, the price of the pen panel should remain flat in May.

According to TrendForce's latest price quotes in early May, 65-inch TV panels averaged $139, 55-inch panels $99, 43-inch panels $56, and 32-inch panels $31.

For display panels, the average price of 27-inch panels was $61.6, 23.8-inch panels $47.7 and 21.5-inch panels $41.3, all unchanged from last month.

For the laptop panel segment, 17.3-inch panels averaged $38.2, 15.6-inch panels averaged $40.5, 14-inch panels averaged $26.3, and 11.6-inch panels averaged $24.8, all unchanged from last month.
